Version 2026-10-21
These terms are the agreement between you and SKMB Software Ltd ("we", "us") for using Muster at https://musterchat.com. By creating an account or using Muster you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Muster.
Muster is a free chat service: direct messages, servers, voice and video calls. Using Muster costs nothing. Where we've switched it on, adults can buy optional cosmetic items in the Muster shop (below); they change how you look on Muster and nothing else. We may change, add or remove features, and we may stop running Muster. If we close the service we'll try to give reasonable notice.
Messages and files in Muster are end-to-end encrypted: they're scrambled on your device and only the devices in the conversation can unscramble them. We can't read them. Voice and video are end-to-end encrypted, pass through our own call server so participants can't see each other's IP addresses, and are not stored. Our Privacy Policy explains what we can see (for example, who is in which conversation and when messages were sent).
When someone reports a message, their device sends us a readable copy of it (and, if they choose, a few messages before it for context), the same as forwarding it. That's how we deal with illegal and harmful content on an encrypted service. See Safety & reporting.
Secret DMs. Adults (18 and over) with two-factor sign-in on can open a secret DM with another adult. It stays locked unless you both confirm with a code from your authenticator app. Messages in it are encrypted like any other direct message: a secret DM doesn't add extra encryption, doesn't make messages disappear, and our rules, reporting and moderation apply to it the same as anywhere else. Either of you can always report it: if it's locked, you can open it on your own, read-only, with your own code to report messages, and our moderators can see that you did.
You must follow our Community Guidelines, which form part of these terms. In particular, you must not use Muster for anything illegal under the law of the UK or the place you're in. Sharing child sexual abuse material, grooming children, or sharing terrorist content will lead to your account being closed and reported to the National Crime Agency or the police. Pornography and sexually explicit images or video aren't allowed anywhere on Muster, including between adults, because people aged 16 and 17 use it.
You own what you post. You give us permission to store, encrypt, transmit and display it as needed to run Muster, and to keep and share reported content as described in our Privacy Policy and Safety page. You must have the right to share anything you post.
Depending on how serious it is, we may:
Server owners and their moderators can also kick, ban, mute or time out people in their own servers. Those are their decisions, not ours, though we can step in.
If you think we got a decision wrong (for example, we removed your content or disabled your account), or you want to complain about how we handle reports or about our compliance with the Online Safety Act, email contact@musterchat.com with your username and what happened. Someone who wasn't involved in the original decision will look at it, and we aim to reply within 14 days. Details are on the Safety & reporting page.
You can stop using Muster at any time. To delete your account, open Settings and choose Delete account, type the phrase it asks for and confirm it's you with your password (or, if you sign in with Google, your two-factor code or a code we email you). Your messages, direct messages, files and devices are deleted straight away, and servers you own pass to their longest-standing member.
If you can't get into your account, or the option doesn't work for you, email contact@musterchat.com from your account's email address and we'll delete it for you.
Reports other people have made, and the evidence that comes with them, aren't deleted with your account; they're kept for as long as the Privacy Policy says. If there is a serious safety matter open about an account, we may disable it instead of deleting it straight away, and finish deleting it once that's dealt with. We may also keep other information where the law requires it (see the Privacy Policy).
Muster is provided free, as it is, and we can't promise it will always be available or free of faults. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, we're not responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, for what other people say or share on Muster, or for losses caused by your breaking these terms. If you use Muster as a consumer, you keep your statutory rights.
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll ask you to accept the new version the next time you open Muster.
On 21 October 2026 Muster moved from S. Kelly to SKMB Software Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. From then on these terms are with SKMB Software Ltd. Your account, content and any shop items stay as they were.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
